About the process

In 2014 the Placemaking: Otara Waterways and Lake Steering group formed to prepare a detailed Strategic Plan to clean up the entire Otara creek and waterway system.

In February, March and April 2015 community workshops were held to allow community involvement in the development of a Strategic Plan

At its 17 August 2015 business meeting, the Ōtara Papatoetoe Local Board endorsed the Plan and supported the establishment of a Trust.

In November 2015, a part-time coordinator was appointed by Auckland Council, funded by the Otara Papatoetoe Local Board, to help facilitate the implementation of the Action Plan.

In June 2016 the Otara Waterways and Lake Trust was formally registered with Charities Services.
