A community planting project was undertaken at Preston Rd Reserve on Saturday 23rd June 2018 as part of the Ōtara Waterways and Lake Trust's commitment to restoring the mauri of the Ōtara waterways and engagement of local communities in protecting and caring for their local awa.

The planting day on the 23rd of June was a huge success with over 70 children, families, teachers from East Tamaki Primary School and Rongomai Primary School, Ōtara Papatoetoe Local Board members and other volunteers attending. The schools are eager to continue looking after the creek and to build upon its relationship with the Ōtara Waterways and Lake Trust.

This planting day marked the first stage, of a three stage project to replant and maintain the creek in the Preston Road Reserve.

Thank you to the Ōtara Papatoetoe Local Board for their support of this project and the Ōtara Waterways and Lake trust.
