Our community actions provide opportunities for everyone to get involved: from volunteering alongside our Stream Team and Community Coordinators to guided walks and educational workshops.
Many of these activities take place at our kaimahi sites (community restoration sites) allowing participants to see the results of our restoration up close, while our broader programmes extend across the catchment.
Our programmes are designed to be inclusive, with a strong focus on community-led action, hands-on education, and environmental awareness. We collaborate with our partners and the community to design actions and events that reflect the diversity of our rohe. These initiatives enable residents to deepen their knowledge of freshwater habitats and their connection with te taiao.
By creating opportunities for our communities to understand, care for and shape their surroundings, our residents are empowered to become kaiāwhina, supporting the long-term regeneration of the Ōtara catchment.
